a fresh, ripe piece of fruit

Is it weird to offer someone a piece of fruit?

Not a stranger, a friend.

I’ll explain a bit more: one recent evening my kids and my friend and neighbour’s kids were playing and riding bikes together out front of our house.

As we were standing around, keeping an eye on the kids and chatting, as you do, I offered my friend a drink, a peach, something. Would he like a refreshment from the kitchen?

Earlier that day I had bought a basket of ripe, local peaches and they were sitting on the counter waiting to be enjoyed.

He was a little taken aback by the offer but it didn’t seem so odd to me. Is that a strange thing to have done?
